# What are the straps on baby’s back for?

Our baby carriers [HoodieCarrier 1](https://love-radius.com/en/porte-bebe-hoodiecarrier-ii-165) / [HoodieCarrier 2](https://love-radius.com/en/porte-bebe-hoodiecarrier-ii-165) and [PhysioCarrier 1](https://love-radius.com/en/porte-bebe-physiocarrier-ii-46) / [PhysioCarrier 2](https://love-radius.com/en/porte-bebe-physiocarrier-ii-46) have side straps at baby’s back level.

They have 3 functions:
- Adjust the capacity of the baby carrier to fit the child’s body shape.
- Keep the airways clear. (to find out [how baby’s airways should be kept clear](https://support.love-radius.com/hc/en/articles/4406224081169-Comment-doivent-%C3%AAtre-les-voies-respiratoires-de-b%C3%A9b%C3%A9-dans-l-%C3%A9charpe-))
- Support the bend in the knees to tilt the pelvis. For the wearer, this helps distribute the weight between the shoulder straps and the waistband.
